Together they started to make pants to sell which soon rocketed in popularity and have not slowed down since. Other innovations by Youphres and Strauss included the metal rivet which was attached to the joins and seams of jeans to strengthen them and lengthen the time between repairs or replacements of the jeans. This particular innovation was granted its own patent and assigned to the Levi Strauss Company.
