Truth - Levi's Were Created in Reno by Innovative Tailor, Jacob Davis

By Cori Carl
There are many myths about how Levi's were really created. Jacob Davis, a tailor, who teamed up with Levi Strauss & Company, invented them in Reno. That's right, Reno. A tailor named Jacob Davis from Reno bought fabric from Levi Strauss. Sheer luck would have it that one of Davis' customers kept purchasing cloth from him to reinforce his torn pants. This gave Davis the idea to use copper rivets to reinforce areas like pockets and keep them from tearing.
There are so many myths about how Levi's were invented that the tales have become legendary. If you want the truth, Levi's were invented in Reno.
Additionally, he added a button fly. Unable to afford to patent his idea, Davis wrote to Loeb Strauss, owner of Levi Strauss & Company, and suggested they go into business together. In 1873, their partnership was solidified and they patented the idea. So, Reno is more than a place to gamble-it is the birthplace of Levi's. Dave's New York in Manhattan is the place to buy legendary Levi's-they have quite a selection of cuts, colors, styles and sizes, basically something for every man, no matter what his flair for fashion (or lack of) is. Levi's 501s, the original design, now comes in colors including khaki, navy and white. It's also available in a rigid, shrink to fit style that's a hit with the rockabilly and biker crowds.
Going beyond the classic look and heading into modern fashion Levi's 514s are slim and straight and are not narrow in the legs as the Levi's 511- Levi's 514 jeans are a slimmer fit than 501s and a hot seller that has been featured in countless fashion magazines as a must-have. Levi's 527s are a low rise boot cut jean that's available in four different washes- Levi's 527 jeans sit just below your waist and are one of their most popular fits. You can also pick up other Levi's styles including boot cut, relaxed and loose fit. Whether you're a construction worker or the managing editor of a magazine, Levi's jeans are work wear that keep you comfortable and fashionable and go easily from day to night.
